This study aimed to design a qualitative model for “Talent Transitioning” (Talent-Gozari) in Iranian professional sports using Classic Grounded Theory (Glaser, 1998). The population included 20 experts (faculty members, senior executives, international coaches, and veteran champions) selected through targeted and theoretical sampling until saturation. Data were collected via deep semi-structured interviews and analyzed through open, selective, and theoretical coding. Trustworthiness was verified using Lincoln and Guba’s (1985) criteria, with a P-Scott inter-coder agreement coefficient of 0.91. The analysis yielded 128 open codes, 24 selective codes, and 9 theoretical codes (strategic dimensions) for the model. These dimensions include: psychological transition factors (accepting decline, identity reconstruction, and mental health), alternative career path development, structural and regulatory factors, legacy transfer and succession planning, economic and welfare factors, cultural and social factors, structural and legal factors, ethical and equity-related factors, and infrastructural and inter-institutional coordination. The Talent Transitioning model is a multi-faceted process transforming athletic retirement into an opportunity for sustainable sports development. This model emphasizes a proactive approach to change management, requiring national consensus and stakeholder commitment to preserve human capital and ensure the future success of Iranian sports.
